Laura Schlenker
B.A., Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, 1985 | J.D., University of Texas School of Law, Austin, Texas, 1988
Laura is a graduate of a nationally recognized law school (hook 'em, Horns!) and has been a licensed attorney since 1988. Her career includes experience as a trial attorney with a top Dallas law firm, an attorney for the UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, and her own law and mediation practice. She has seen firsthand the cost to people who are swept up in a lawsuit, a cost that is not just financial, but also costly in time, reputation, and damage to relationships.
Laura's legal practice now focuses on resolving conflicts outside of the courtroom. Laura is an experienced collaborative lawyer and mediator, and has been recognized by her peers through leadership positions in the Collaborative Law sections of both the Dallas Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. She is also a founding member and past President of Attorneys Without Litigation, a collaborative law network. Laura works to help her clients achieve agreement with the other side without resorting to litigation, so that they can move on with their lives. Her law practice focuses on legal needs in areas such as collaborative divorce, separation, adoption, co-parenting, and faith based disputes.
Laura is also a committed Christian, and understands when clients want to seek an outcome that will both protect their legal interests and honor their faith beliefs.
Laura is married to attorney Wes Schlenker, with children in their teens and twenties. Laura has held leadership roles in her community, her children's schools, and her church. As an added bonus, she knows what is like to negotiate with teenagers (and people who think like teenagers).
Laura believes it is important to give back. She frequently volunteers with the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, a partnership between the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. If you believe you may qualify for free legal service, please visit Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program for more information.
Laura charges $325/hr for legal services, and most cases require a refundable retainer. She has special discounted rates for nonprofit entities. Please see the Services page for mediation rates.
